Weight Gainers

Weight gainers are high calorie supplements used to aid calorific intake, making them ideal for individuals who have trouble eating enough to build muscle through whole foods. They usually supply at least 500 calories per serving, with some reaching upwards of 1000 calories per serving. They contain a high amount of carbohydrates with the ratio of carbohydrates to proteins generally in the range of 2:1 to 5:1. A ratio of 3:1 is optimal in most cases but may vary according to body type.

They also usually contain modest quantities of fat to increase the calorie content. Most products provide 5-10g of fat (with minimal saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol) per serving. Some weight gainers may also contain vitamins and minerals, creatine and free-form amino acids such as glutamine and leucine to enhance their muscle-building capacity.
